Indian Association of Veterinary Microbiologists, Immunologists and Specialists in Infectious Diseases(IAVMI) was founded on 7th June, 1978 during the 1st  National Symposium on “Impact of Infection and Immunity on Animal Production & health” to encompass all the disciplines of Animal Health.

The founder member resolved on the day at Indian Veterinary Research Institute Izatnagar to form a professional society. The house accepted that constitution prepared by ad-hoc committee comprising of Dr. I. P Singh, Chairman. Drs S. C. Adlakha, P. K. Uppal, M. C. Goel as member may be adopted.

The general body of the IAVMI elected Dr. C. M. Singh as the founder president of the association, Dr. B. S. Keshavmurthy as the general secretary and Dr. I. P. Singh and Dr. R. C. Pathak as vice presidents. The august body also nominated a committee for the formation of constitution of the IAVMI which was later on adopted by general body of the association. The executive committee of the association appointed Prof. P. K. Uppal as the founder editor of the Journal and Dr. P. C. Harbola as the associate editor with eight members on the editorial board. The Journal is being published regularly since then. Currently the association has more than 850 life members in India and abroad.
